On the way to Koro’s Bay features enriching vocabulary, possible follow-up activities, such as baking or craft, and loving family relationships. It takes readers on a bush walk, as Meri, Gus and little brother Davey, set out to visit their grandfather. This book highlights the native flora and fauna of the Marlborough Sounds.
Lunchtime for the Sparrows is written with young children in mind. Ten cheeky little sparrows are spying on the school children as they eat their lunch. Along with the story the book features two poems and information about these friendly little backyard birds. Jaunty rhythm, rhyming text and matching pictures empower the young reader to read along.
Fairies on Moonbeams is a collection of quirky poems that Sue has written for young children, over the years. Included in the book are several traditional rhymes. This picture-poetry book features many artworks created by five year olds, and its descriptive language and colourful photos will spark conversation and creativity.
Sue writes from a platform of many years of junior teaching experience. Her picture books on topics that young children relate to, are characterised by bold colour choices and rhyming text. Using descriptive language and child centred illustrations she weaves fiction and non-fiction into an enjoyable read for both adult and child.
“The children and I would often create classroom books as we retold experiences or made up stories. These books would be illustrated, using the children’s artwork or my photos, and inevitably become library corner favourites.
Now my love of nature and a passion for creating stories for little people are the driving forces behind my writing.”
